  • short youtube video on how to read a book
    1. have a purpose, direct relevant to life, otherwise no memory when there is no purpose
    2. major arguments and evidence matter more than details. pay attention to the most important chapters and paragraphes
    3. use multiple modes – writing, talking and visualizing. use voice recorder to recorder my learning of the book
    4. take time to process, do not read too many books in a hurry in short time period. Apply the lessons IMMEDIATELY is way better than read immediately read more books, since you will easily forget about most of them.
    5. Focus on the high-value content: the content with the most information but can get with the least efforts, such as title, blurb, table of content, illustrations, and bold headings
    6. read more than once, only re-read the books that will truly impact my life
    7. know the author, know his background and his intention to write this book, make sure he/she does not just want to make money to write this book
    8. understand the context – understand when a book was written and why
    9. question what you read, question anything since any book written by human being are subject to mistakes, errors, and biases, Look at reviews of what other people think, you will be surprised to what you can learn from other readers.
    10. you can read only the summary of the books, however, if it is really resonates with your life, recommend read the whole book. Recommend read only books with review score >3.7, and only read the best book in that category.
